Trained as a mathematician, she started working in Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the seventies, at the AI Lab of the Stanford University, directed by J. McCarthy. Researcher at the Italian National research Council, in 1982 she joined as Full Professor La Sapienza, Rome, where she founded a research group in AI.
Her research concerned automated deduction with applications to program verification, knowledge representation and automated reasoning. In particular, she investigated on the possibilities offered by an explicit representation of meta-knowledge to increase the efficiency of deduction, the expressive power of a system, to provide it with introspection, and to allow for reasoning about knowledge and reasoning in multi-agent scenarios. She applied AI techniques in the construction of several kinds of intelligent systems, cognitive robotics and security.

Davide Ariu is one of the Pluribus One co-founders. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer and Information Engineering and his background is in the Computer Security, Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning areas. He is a post-doctoral researcher with the PRA Lab (University of Cagliari). Within Pluribus One, he is also responsabile for the participation of the company in european and national research projects.
Luca Carloni – Columbia University, New York City (USA)
Luca Carloni is Professor of Computer Science at Columbia University in the City of New York. He holds a Laurea Degree Summa cum Laude in Electronics Engineering from the University of Bologna, Italy, and the MS and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from the University of California, Berkeley. His research interests include methodologies and tools for multi-core system-on-chip platforms with emphasis on system-level design and intellectual property reuse, design and optimization of networks-on-chip, and distributed embedded systems. He coauthored over one hundred and forty refereed papers and is the holder of two patents. Luca received the Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award from the National Science Foundation in 2006, was selected as an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellow in 2008, and received the ONR Young Investigator Award and the IEEE CEDA Early Career Award in 2010 and 2012, respectively. In 2013 Luca served as general chair of Embedded Systems Week (ESWeek), the premier event covering all aspects of embedded systems and software. Luca is an IEEE Fellow.
Jeronimo Castrillon – Technische Universität Dresden (Germany)
Jeronimo Castrillon is a professor in the Department of Computer Science at the TU Dresden, where he is also affiliated with the Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden (CfAED). He received the Electronics Engineering degree from the Pontificia Bolivariana University in Colombia in 2004, the master degree from the ALaRI Institute in Switzerland in 2006 and the Ph.D. degree (Dr.-Ing.) with honors from the RWTH Aachen University in Germany in 2013. His research interests lie on methodologies, languages, tools and algorithms for programming complex computing systems. He has more than 70 international publications and has been a member of technical program and organization committees in international conferences and workshops (e.g., DAC, DATE, ESWEEK, CGO, LCTES, Computing Frontiers, ICCS and FPL). He is also a regular reviewer for ACM and IEEE journals (e.g., IEEE TCAD, IEEE TPDS, ACM TODAES and ACM TECS). In 2014 Prof. Castrillon co-founded Silexica GmbH, a company that provides programming tools for embedded multicore architectures. Prof. Castrillon is Senior Member IEEE, Member ACM and founding member of the executive committee of the ACM “Future of Computing Academy” (FCA).
Michele Comenale Pinto – University of Sassari, Sassari (Italy)
Michele Comenale Pinto is full Professor of “Diritto della navigazione” (Air and Maritime Law) in the Department of Law at the University of Sassari. He holds a Laurea Degree in Law from the University of Roma “La Sapienza”, Italy, and a PhD Degree in Transport Law from the University of Messina, Italy. Also, he as been qualified to practice law in 1995 in the District of Court of Appeals of Rome. His research interests include, but is not limited to, Air Law, Transport Law, Transport Law related to the new technologies. He is author of many articles and books on transport law and he has been Member of Technical and Scientific Committee of ENAC (Italian Civil Aviation Authority) between 2005 and 2009. Since 2002, Prof. Comenale Pinto is the coordinator and responsible of the PhD Course in “Diritto ed economia dei sistemi produttivi” at the University of Sassari. He is also member of the editorial board of national and international peer reviewed journals, while he is vice president of the Asociación Latino Americana de Derecho (ALADA).
Nuria de Lama – Vice-Secretary General (BDVA) and European Programs Manager (Atos)
Nuria de Lama studied Telecommunications Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. She has spent more than 20 years working with Innovation in different technology environments. In the last 10 years her focus has been on platform ecosystems, IoT and Big Data. Since 2010 she holds the position of European Programs Manager at Atos, coordinating the Strategy of Atos Research & Innovation in European collaborative research. She combines the technology background with good knowledge on policy and vertical domains (especially smart cities, industry 4.0 and agrifood), which she currently uses in the context of Digital Transformation activities. She was one of the active founders of the Big Data Value Public Private Partnership, where she played the role of Vice-Secretary General of the Big Data Value Association (BDVA) until she was elected member of the Board of Directors. She coordinates the Steering Committee of such initiative (40+ active projects) and contributes to projects like BDVe (Big Data Value ecosystem) and DataBench (Big Data benchmarks). She is member of the Organizing Committee of several Big Data events such as the European Big Data Value Forum and acts as external advisor to several projects, including I-BiDaaS (Industrial-Driven Big Data as a Self-Service Solution), Data Pitch (a program for Startups to innovate with data) or NGIoT (roadmap for new generation IoT). Along her career she has worked in more than 40 R&I projects; she has acted as independent expert for the European Commission in many occasions as proposal evaluator, project reviewer and rapporteur, and has a long track record of participation as speaker in international conferences and events. Nowadays she follows closely European strategies on Digital Transformation, including the deployment of digital platforms in different operational contexts and domains, which includes aspects like technology integration, piloting and ecosystem building.
Nikil Dutt – University of California, Irvine (USA)
Nikil Dutt is a Distinguished Professor of CS, Cognitive Sciences, and EECS at the University of California, Irvine, and also a Distinguished Visiting Professor of CSE at IIT Bombay, India. He received a PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (1989). His research interests are in embedded systems, EDA, computer architecture and compilers, distributed systems, healthcare IoT, and brain-inspired architectures and computing. He has received numerous best paper awards and is coauthor of 7 books. Professor Dutt has served as EiC of ACM TODAES and AE for ACM TECS and IEEE TVLSI. He is on the steering, organizing, and program committees of several premier EDA and Embedded System Design conferences and workshops, and has also been on the advisory boards of ACM SIGBED, ACM SIGDA, ACM TECS and IEEE ESL. He is an ACM Fellow, IEEE Fellow, and recipient of the IFIP Silver Core Award.
Michael Masin – IBM Research (Israel)

Dr. Michael Masin is a Research Staff Member in the IoT and Wearables Department at IBM Research – Haifa. He has served as the technical lead, principle investigator, and coordinator for numerous projects, both with government and private customers. Michael’s research interests focus on the development of engineer-friendly AI tools and applications based on machine learning and multi-objective optimization. These include (1) engineering, managing, and engaging things, humans, and teams of things and humans; (2) designing and managing cloud and cloud-edge infrastructure and applications; and (3) designing, controlling, and integrating production, service, and logistics systems. Michael received his M.Sc. in mechanical engineering from the Moscow State University of Railway Transport, and then went on to get his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in industrial engineering at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. He has published many papers in leading professional journals and conferences, filed more than 20 IBM patents, and continues to supervise graduate students at the Technion and Tel Aviv University.

Alberto Sangiovanni Vincentelli has served on the faculty of the University of California, Berkeley since 1976 and currently is the Edgar L. and Harold H. Buttner Chair of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences. As both an academic and entrepreneur, Alberto Sangiovanni-Vincentelli propelled electronic design automation (EDA) into an indispensable engineering discipline with his groundbreaking scientific contributions and collaborations with industry.
In 1983, he co-founded SDA Systems–one of two companies that merged to form Cadence Design Systems. In 1986, he went on to help found Synopsys. During the 1990s, Sangiovanni-Vincentelli developed the foundations of “platform-based design,” a comprehensive design and analysis methodology for electronic and cyber-physical systems. In 2001, he received the Kaufman Award for his pioneering contributions to EDA from the Electronic Design Automation Consortium. In 2011, he was awarded the IEEE/RSE Maxwell Medal “for groundbreaking contributions that have had an exceptional impact on the development of electronics and electrical engineering or related fields”. He received an honorary Doctorate from Aalborg University (Denmark) and one from KTH (Sweden). Dr. Sangiovanni-Vincentelli presently serves on the Board of Directors of Cadence Design Systems Inc., KPIT Technologies, Cogisen, Expert System, UltraSoC, and on the Advisory Board of Atlante Ventures, Innogest, XSeed, Lutron and Walden International. An advisor to leading companies such as Intel, HP, TI, ST Microelectronics, Mercedes, BMW, Magneti Marelli, Telecom Italia, United Technologies, General Motors, Pirelli, and Camozzi, he is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, an IEEE and ACM Fellow. He has published more than 900 papers and 17 books in the areas of EDA, design methodologies, control, hybrid systems and system-level design.

Armando Tacchella is Associate Professor of Information Systems at the Faculty of Engineering, at the University of Genoa. He obtained his Ph.D in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Genoa in 2001 and his “Laurea” (M.Sc equivalent) in Computer Engineering in 1997. His teaching activities include graduate courses in AI and Formal Methods as well as undergraduate courses in design and analysis of algorithms. His research interests are mainly in the field of AI, with a focus on modeling and verification of cyber-physical systems, automated design and configuration, verification of neural networks and other learning systems. His recent publications focus on improving safety and security of control architectures using formal methods with applications to robotics and industrial control systems. He has published about one hundred papers in international conferences and journals including AAAI, IJCAI, CAV, IJCAR, JAI, JAIR, IEEE-TCAD. In 2007 he was awarded by the Italian Association of Artificial Intelligence (AI*IA) the prize “Marco Somalvico” for the best young Italian researcher in AI.
